One of the services ProSky Studio provides is BIM, Building Information Modeling. We use our drones to collect the data, and then turn it into actionable info with BIM software. So here’s how it works:
The first step in Building Information Modeling is to take photos of your building, both inside and out. The aircraft follows a flight path to capture photos of every square inch of your building. In fact, we can photo the interior of your structure as well. Object-avoidance technology has been standard in high-end drones for years, and our fleet all contain this capability. This ensures safety and allows for indoor data collection.
We use Matterport, DJI and Nikon cameras to take the highest-quality images. Lower-res photos won’t produce the most accurate measurements.
From there, the task is to create stunning 3D models of your property, to be used by engineers, architects, construction managers, and other professionals. We take the images and transform them with our back-end production suite. The centerpiece of it is AutoCad Civil3D. This software creates an animated model of your building in 3D.
Because the model is in 3D, it gives an accurate and very usable model of the building in question. This is particularly useful in construction projects in progress. The modeling allows managers to see mistakes your crew may have made, to be sure the project is on the right track, and to determine how much materials are needed.
The equipment we use is at a high enough resolution that end users can manipulate the data as they see fit. In this way, buildings can be remodeled or otherwise altered. What we provide is much more than images, but an original product that can be used as actual material for a project.
It is one thing to view photos of a construction site, aerial or otherwise. It’s another to study aerial video of your site in progress.
To be able to take action on the information you gain, you really need analyzed data, such as aerial mapping or, as we’ve been discussing, BIM. This is the only truly interactive approach.
